Campus Chaos
College life. . . tons of fun, right? Huge parties full of hot upperclassmen, late nights on the town with new friends, lazy days spent in bed recovering from said evenings. Unless, of course, you are me.
My freshman year of college is not looking like the carefree experience I had hoped it to be. My busy class schedule means I have homework every night, effectively ruling out parties. Besides, my days start at 8 or 9 a.m.; falling into bed at 1 is not an option. Even if it was, my boyfriend would certainly not like the idea of me hanging out with a bunch of random "college guys". As for friends, well, to be totally honest, I haven't felt all that friendly lately. Mainly I've just been tired. I have met people and even "clicked" with a couple but just when the conversation gets interesting it's time for class -- or work.
Along with a new school came a new job, as an announcer for a local radio station. No, it's not demanding work, especially since I worked at a similar station for three years at home; it's just something else to do. This week has been especially crazy because I'm training in so I'm spending every spare hour at the station.
Understand, I'm not complaining; I chose to have a job in the first place. I'm simply saying that college life isn't what the movies make it sound like. There are still "table cliques" in the cafeteria. Girls still make catty comments behind each others' backs. Guys still try to "score" -- on and off the football field. And I still wonder where, exactly, I fit into all of this chaos. But hey, if high school is any indication of how this all works I can safely guarantee that I'll figure that out. . . right before I graduate!
